Helsinki and Tallinn agree to build a submarine rail tunnel under the Baltic sea: it would replace ferries, which carry 8 million passengers a year between the cities. A trip that currently takes one hour and 40 minutes at its very shortest would last just 30 minutes. According to a recent preliminary study conducted by experts from Estonia, Finland and Sweden, the tunnel would cost up to €13 bn and it could be a reality by 2030. If completed, the Tallinn-Helsinki tunnel would be the longest submarine tunnel in the world.
