The LOFAR radio telescope expands into Ireland

LOFAR (Low-Frequency Array for Radio astronomy) is the largest connected radio telescope in the world: there are 50 stations in the network spread across six partner countries, with 38 in the Netherlands, six in Germany, three in Poland, and one each in France, Sweden, and Britain. This year a LOFAR station will be built  in Ireland, specifically on the grounds of Birr Castle, located centrally in Ireland. This project will help us to discover new secrets of the Universe.
