China has its first stainless steel roof for airport terminal

At Qingdao, in the Shandong province of eastern China, a gigantic stainless steel roof has been installed on the newest Airport.

Qingdao is a coastal city, so the roof must withstand strong winds, torrential rain and sea corrosion. Stainless steel is the perfect material for this task! The stainless steel roof has an area of 220,000 square meter, as 31 standard soccer fields, and it is composed of 16,368 panels welded together. The welding lines have a total length of 500,000 meters! The stainless steel roof is more resistant and weatherproof to windy weather than traditional roofing materials like aluminium, magnesium and manganes. The new airport will be operational in 2019 and will cost more than 41 billion yuan.
